Postal Automation--or using U.S. Postal Service (USPS) Certified Software to reduce your postage expenses--is comprised of  three (3) elements:

• Address Validation:  To qualify for postal discounts a mailer must first validate and standardize all address information using USPS approved software (Coding Accuracy Support Service [CASS] Certified by the USPS). This process verifies deliverability, standardizes address elements and appends directional, ZIP+4's and other necessary information. This process does not by itself generate postage discounts, but it is required. For more information on name and address validation go to Address Validation Solutions (click).

• Postal Presorting: Postal presorting software interfaces with your applications before printing. Map your data fields to the software, define the parameters of the mailing (how much does one piece weigh, what is your zip code, etc.) and let it run. The mailing is presorted electronically, not manually; so it prints out the same way it did before using the software. Only now, it is in presorted order--the way the USPS wants to receive it. No special equipment is required! No additional staff is required! So it is not more work, but it is different work--and we'll train your staff on how to use it. 

• Barcoding: There are two (2) barcoding requirements:

• POSTNET Barcoding: The delivery address must be displayed as an eleven-digit Delivery Point Barcode. This must be displayed in the Address Block of the outgoing mail piece. The software converts the address information into the appropriate data stream for the printer to display the barcode in the approved format.
   

• Barcoded Sack and Tray Tags: The USPS requires that bundles (sacks, trays or pallets) of mail be labeled correctly with barcoded tags. The software creates and generates the required tags for each mailing--with approved, barcoded information.
